Judge Solomon Lewis Withey

Federal Judge. Father of Charles Shepard Withey. Husband of Marion Louise Hinsdill. This portrait hangs on the wall in the Kent County Courthouse in Grand Rapids Michigan. The photo of the portrait was taken during the 150th anniversary of Solomon's appointment to the Federal bench.

Roger Conant, my 9th great grandfather and founder of Salem Massachusetts in 1620

Our ancestors include Roger Conant, the founder of Salem Mass. Also the Putnam, Porter and Hawthorne family's of Salem. They were involved with the Salem Witch Trials. A statue of Roger Conant stands in front of the Salem Witch Museum although he was there long before any of these events happened.

The Salem Witch Trials is the best movie I have seen concerning the topic. We are directly descended from several of the main charactors in the movie as you will see later. Also, the movies Witches of Ipswich, The Crucible and The Covenant include our direct ancestors. The book Salem Possessed is a very good source concerning this topic and it helped me tie the Porter and Hawthorn family's to our family tree from a marriage to the Putnam family.

I have the Conant family geneology book that was written by Fredrick Odell Conant and privately printed in 1887. This book has been in the family and only 350 were printed. It was scanned and now it's online. The book is has about 650 pages.
